Sustainability

Building a more
sustainable
material future

Environmental care is one of our missions. Recycled engineering plastics with transparent environmental data help manufacturers reduce their impact.

01 — The material loop

Material → impact

01

Material

Recycled PC (R series), recycled PPS (RS series), recycled PEI (RPEI) and recycled PEEK (PKR).

02

Production

CO₂ counted from raw material procurement to product delivery.

03

Recycling

Including R-20E, a post-consumer recycled grade.

04

Lower impact

Much lower than ordinary raw material production.

02 — Declarations

Eco Leaf & Carbon
Footprint of Products

0.37 kg-CO₂eq — total CO₂ emitted from raw material procurement to product delivery (CFP declaration)

The R grades (recycled PC) and RS grades (recycled PPS) are certified with the Eco Leaf declaration and the CFP declaration (Carbon Footprint of Products) by SuMPO (Sustainable Management Promotion Organization).

The Eco Leaf declaration gives quantitative environmental information on the products’ life-cycle impact, assessed by LCA (life cycle assessment). These declarations help manufacturers who need visibility and transparency of the environmental impact of their products and components.

03 — SDGs

What are
the SDGs?

SDG 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production SDG 13: Climate action

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

The 17 SDGs are integrated — action in one area affects outcomes in others, and development must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability. Reference: UNDP.

Our manufacturing partner’s activities for the SDGs

The Japanese manufacturer of the polycarbonate grades we supply holds ISO 14001, obtained in the early days of ISO management systems. Its efforts include saving electricity, water and paper and reducing waste in daily work.

When the SDGs were adopted in 2015, it linked its ISO activities with the SDGs. Based in Sakai City, Osaka — appointed by the Japanese government as one of the SDGs leading cities — it focuses on developing and producing more sustainable materials, based on its know-how in plastic compounds.
